what’s a good home remedy for feline herpes?
Posted by: admin : Category: Herpes Remedy
250mg-500mg of l-lysine daily and for flare ups you need to see the vet for antibiotics if you can get azithromyacin that works best.

There isn’t one. Your cat has a virus, which it will have for the rest of its life. All you can do is treat the symptoms, if the herpes are giving it a rash.

Home remedy? There’s not one, really. If they don’t get very sick (my kitties just sneeze on occasion and have a runny eye now and then – both are very rare though), then they will mostly be okay on their own. A lysine supplement is the best way to keep them from shedding the virus (getting sick from it). You can get it from your vet in either gel or powder form. Also, talk to your vet about using a human lysine supplement from a health store (cheaper than the vet version). They come in pill form and are the same medication; you just crush them and sprinkle over kitty’s food. Just check with the vet for dosage instructions.

Are you talking about FIV? Have you spoken to a vet and they have blood tested your cat?
I think you need to talk with the vet so you can understand it more.

There is no cure for herpes, once a cat is infected it has the virus for life. The goal is to give supportive care, treat the symptoms & try to shorten the outbreak. Treatment also depends on severity & symptoms.
Keeping the nostrils & eyes clear of discharges.
Antibiotics to treat secondary infections.
Antiviral drugs.
Ensuring the cat is receiving food & liquid intake. Force feeding, IV fluids or sub cutaneous fluids if necessary.
L-Lysine is an essential amino acid which has been shown to suppress viral replication and inhibit . However, you should always speak to your veterinarian before you supplement your cat’s diet.

Feline herpes can be controlled. The best thing is to get the healthiest immune system that you can. This means no stress, a premium diet, and l-lysine.
Feed your cat the best food you can afford – this means nothing from th grocery store. No corn, no by-products – maximum nutrition. Get some l-lysine tablets from the vitamin isle. Crush one and sprinkle on his canned food – 500 mg, split into two doses.
He may still have some flare ups, but once his immune system is strong, he’ll fight the virus more and more.

It’s a common virus with FIV cats, and easily treated with stuff from the grocery store. A cat dose of Lysine (sometimes called L-lysine) is 250 to 500 mg. You crush the pill (don’t use the gel cap, it tastes terrible) and put it on the food every day for a week. Lysine bonds to the herpes virus in the cat and negates it. Usually you’ll see good results within three days. I’ve usually treated a whole week when the eyes get runny, just to make sure it’s cleared up enough.
You can’t overdose on this, any extra is excreted by the cat. It works wonders and is reliable. It also does a good job on human cold sores.
However if your cat has runny eyes and the lysine doesn’t help, chances are that it’s the calci virus which needs a prescription from the vets.
