thanks dan but i read somewhere that you should keep it dry?
Mariya F its not genital herpes note that i said its on the side of my lip. and i know there is no cure for it, its just an outbreak i need to control it from spreading

When you go to the dr. ask to have the cream called denivir, it works really well, it drys the cold sore up in about 2 days, only thing is though its about $40 but its well worth it when your lifps feel like they are going to fall off!

Herpes on the lips is not uncommon. Most people are infected at some time in their life. The best thing that you can buy over the counter is Abreva (a lip ointment). It’s going to cost you 10-15 dollars, but it’s probably cheaper than a trip to the doctor. If you don’t see some improvement in a week or two, the doctor may be able to prescribe you something else, but it won’t necessarily work better.

Herpes is a virus inside your body, no home remedy will cure it.. abreva may shorten it, but in order to prevent future outbreaks, you will need to go on antiviral therapy, e.g. Acyclovir. I am assuming you are talking about genital herpes (the outbreaks are on your genitals)- the most important thing you can do is make sure you avoid sexual contact during and immediately after your outbreaks as you will be contagious. Also, make sure not to share baths with anyone during your outbreaks. And yes, keep them dry because additional moisture may irritate the skin more and you can get an infection.
