For reoccurring genital herpes outbreaks the usual dosage of acyclovir is either:

acyclovir 200mg orally 5 times a day for 5 – 7 days or until the symptoms go away,

acyclovir 400mg orally 3 times a day for 5 – 7 days or until the symptoms go away, or

acyclovir 800mg orally 2 times a day for 5 – 7 days or until the symptoms go away

Recent studies have shown that shorter treatment therapies at higher doses may be an effective alternative. For example:
acyclovir 800 mg orally 3 times a day for 2 days

I personally take acyclovir for my reoccurring genital herpes outbreaks. I take 400mg orally 5 times a day.

Good luck!

Im not sure what dosage you need but I DO KNOW that you cannot have sex with your girlfriend untill your breakout is TOTALLY gone …at least not without risk of infecting her

Some little tid bit that doctors do not want to scare you with …

When the outbreak has gone into hiding … excuse me – remission or whatever they like to call it – IT IS STILL ACTIVE AND YOU WILL INDEED SPREAD IT REGARDLESS IF IT IS HIDING OR RIGHT OUT THERE IN THE OPEN.

Same as syphellis – one of the first symptoms is a rash on your hands … then it goes away as quick as it came – and is very contagious though you can’t see it.

WHY DO YOU PEOPLE THINK THAT THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE INFECTED???? They been taking drugs to hide it so new partners can pick it up without knowing of your dirty little secrets …

    SU – PRIZE !!!!

It’s best not to exceed 1200mg in a day. Typical episodic non frequent recurrance dosages are 200 mg 5 times a day for 5 days or 400 mg 3 times a day for 5 days.

Nearly everyone infected with HSV2 at some time or another if only a few days a year does have the virus on their skin without any signs of an outbreak.

If you have a legal prescription for the Acyclovir, you should follow the directions on the bottle. Your Phy should have answered all these questions for you. If you haven’t seen a Phy in a while, now is a good time to start. There are a lot of new meds out there. Also it used to be thought that as long as you were not having a breakout you were not contagious, now we know differently. You will always need a condom to be safe against spreading this disease. Good Luck to You.
