without treatment how often would i have a breakout and how long would it usually last?

Every person is different. Some people have several outbreaks a year, while some people go years without outbreaks. Like B.J. C said, there are SO many different factors.

The first genital herpes outbreak, or initial outbreak, is usually the longest and the most severe. It can take up to a couple weeks to heal with medication, and even longer without medication.

Reoccurring outbreaks are usually much shorter and less severe then the first one. These outbreaks can take anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks to heal.

Again, EVERYONE is different.

I have personally had genital herpes for 6+ years. My reoccurring outbreaks usually last around 5 days, but I’ve been outbreak free for over 2 years (without taking daily suppressive therapy).

the outbreak is new the cream is just applied. is the person still contageous to classmates or anyone for that matter after application.

unless they are taking medication to help prevent them from passing it and to help them control their outbreaks, they are still contagious.they are even more contagious when they have sores, cold sores or blisters. the only way that classmates can catch herps from them is if they have some form of sexual contact with the person who has herpes. ie kissing, oral sex, or sexual intercourse.

I broke out with a herpes rash (i think) on my stomach about a month and a half ago and it wont go away. It starts looking like it will go away and then it comes back, there are no blisters its just a bad red rash and it itches alot. I cant afford any medication at the time being, are there any cheap remedies that WORK? PLEASE HELP

u sure it’s herpes, doesn’t sound like it, it’s probably something else, u might have to go find out what it really is because i bet u it’s not herpes, and if it is, there’s really no home remedies that will help u if it was herpes it would go away on it’s own after 2 weeks at the most so i really don’t think it’s herpes

When I’m in the store I can see people taking money up for Cancer, like the pink ribbons, Aids and other diseases but none for herpes. I research on the internet but there’s nothing I thank is real. The Doctor’s are quick to tell you there’s no cure you have it for life and send you on your way.

To Prairie Girl: It is uneducated, ignorant, judgmental people like yourself who contribute to the mass ignorance about this disease. No not everyone who gets herpes is b/c of something they did. My sister caught this from her husband who was cheating on her. Did she deserve this for having sex with her husband?? And children may get it from their mothers. And what about a rape victim? And it ISN’T prevented by condoms, it can still be spread, and it most definitley has nothing to do with multiple partners. It only takes one time. You can even get it thru oral sex. You are a very mean spirited person who should think twice before opening your mouth and showing the world your stupidity.

My girlfriend recently learned that her ex gave her genital herpes. Can I get herpes from her by giving her oral when she’s not experiencing an outbreak? And can I get genital herpes from her by having unprotected sex during a time when she’s not having an outbreak?

There is less then a 10 percent chance of getting herpes when your partner does not have an out break. That is even further reduced if she was on some kind of suppressive therapy (ie Valtrex). Genital herpes can be passed to the mouth but it usually likes to live and occur on the genitals. Meaning there is a small risk of you getting herpes while she doesn’t have an out break, either on your mouth or genitals. You can use condoms when she doesn’t have an out break but I should warn you that condoms do not offer 100 percent protection against herpes, percent because they don’t cover all areas of the genitals that herpes can affect but it should cut your risk of getting herpes down a little.
